COAT TALES

COAT TALES

One of my favourite things about winter is winter fashion. I have an obsession with long (grey) coats, oversized knits and chunky scarves – all of which make dressing throughout the cooler months incredibly easy. Throwing on a full length coat is an easy way to dress up any drab winter outfit, whether it’s with jeans or over a dress.

A great pair of over the knee boots are also an awesome winter staple. Exercising caution when it comes to styling, I’d opt for a suede pair over anything patent to avoid looking like a hooker. Keep skin on show to a minimum, because in this case less is really less.

SHAPING UP WITH OTTOMAN 3 BROW BAR

SHAPING UP WITH OTTOMAN 3 BROW BAR

Having never before experienced threading, I was intrigued to attend the opening of Ottoman 3 Brow Bar at Melbourne Central last week. With a brand new space that occupies the walkway between Melbourne Central and Emporium, it’s easy to get to during your lunch break for a little mid-week beauty therapy.

Threading is quite an intense experience – your specialist will use a piece of string to individually pull out each stray hair from the follicle. If you’re used to waxing like me, the sensitivity of the area around the eye will most likely lead to an impromptu sneeze throughout the process. However the results are well worth it – the team are absolutely lovely and have incredible insight as to the perfect shape to suit every face. The Ottoman 3 product range includes the Brow Powder Pencil and Brow Bone Highlighter, with a range of shades to suit all complexions.

NAMASTE AT KAYA HEALTH CLUBS

NAMASTE AT KAYA HEALTH CLUBS

Notoriously popular as Melbourne’s first mind and body health club, Kaya Health Clubs certainly doesn’t disappoint. Hardcore dance music, overbearing lighting and cues for machinery are notably absent, replaced instead by an atmosphere that is more in tune with that of a luxurious day spa.

I was lucky enough to be invited down for a yoga class, which I found to be the perfect start to my long weekend. Having recently become interested in various forms of exercising (particularly those that don’t actually feel like exercise) I think I may have found my new calling. Admittedly my downward dog certainly needs some work, however I have no doubts that this will fast become a routine obsession.

The yoga room itself is instantly relaxing; with dim lighting and peaceful music I could happily just sit in there for an hour and leave feeling refreshed. With true yogis for instructors, you’ll be perfecting your Bakasana in no time.

Specialising in yoga and pilates, Kaya also runs circuit training and spin classes, with a variety of alternative therapies and a nutritionist available on site. If the treadmill is more of your kinda’ thing, then you’ll be more than satisfied with Kaya’s top of the range machinery. Featuring in-built WiFi (perfect for YouTube streaming while you work out) and the option of running various tracks from around the globe, running will never be boring again!

You can visit the Kaya Health Clubs website for more info on all of their classes, or like their Facebook page for the latest news and fitness inspo!

KENDALL JENNER FOR INTERVIEW MAGAZINE

KENDALL JENNER FOR INTERVIEW MAGAZINE

My favourite non-Kardashian has nailed it again. Posing for Interview Magazine, Kendall Jenner bears a striking resemblance to Audrey Hepburn in a shoot that channels 50s-style beauty. The 18 year old has reached a staggering 9.5million followers on Instagram, and has recently completed a successful catwalk season walking for Chanel, Givenchy and Giles.

It seems the eldest Jenner is taking her dad’s words of wisdom seriously. When asked about the best advice he has given her, she replied: “Dream big, work hard.” My parents brought up Kylie and me to be workaholics. That’s something I really appreciate.”

I couldn’t agree more!

WEEKEND WISH LIST

WEEKEND WISH LIST

I love slouchy boyfriend style on my days off and this Helmut Lang skirt is definitely on my weekend wish list (alongside every other grey piece of clothing on the Internet). Dressed up or down, you can get away with wearing it a multitude of different ways, depending on your occasion, style or in my case, mood.

When I find something I love I am guilty of absolutely wearing it to death, so I tend to spend a bit more on basics such as these to increase their lifespan. Good quality foundations and basics are certainly the secret to maintaining an awesome (and wearable) wardrobe.

Happy shopping!

Despite claims from my boyfriend that I stole the style from him, Timberlands have been on my radar for a while now. Originally worn by 90s rappers and tradies alike, they’ve definitely become one of my favourite wardrobe staples and are a great casual weekend alternative. Paired with a killer pair of drop crotch pants, leather jacket and some reflector shades, you really can’t go wrong.

Perhaps it’s a Melbourne thing. We have a habit of pairing the conventional with the stylish, which often results in a look unique to our corner of the globe. Having travelled through Asia, America and Europe, I can honestly say I love our city’s approach to fashion more than that of any other city.

This look was shot just outside Fed Square, which is one of my favourite parts of Melbourne. Sitting right a long the river, the eclectic mix of locals and tourists creates an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. Not to mention, there’s always an exhibition, live music or special screening on the giant TV.

Wish Winter in the City Style Competition

I’m a little obsessed with these Wish leather-look tracksuit pants. Dressed up or down, they’re a great alternative for when you’re not in the mood for denim (or a dress). As a pants person through and through, I can safely say they’ll be a wardrobe staple throughout the cooler months, especially when paired with heels.

As part of the Wish Winter in the City style competition, I chose to style them up with Nicholas heels, my favourite Marc Jacobs clutch, a simple white T by Alexander Wang t-shirt and an AQ/AQ Crop. A great way to carry the trend through from summer into winter, throwing your crop tops over a t-shirt is the perfect way to layer your outfit.

WINTER CROP

WINTER CROP

Although it feels as though winter is already upon us, the time for wearing crop tops is far from over. Transcending seamlessly from spring/summer into autumn/winter, the crop top has taken on an entirely new persona. Thrown on over crisp white shirts or with strategic cutouts perfect for layering, the trend has fast become a versatile wardrobe staple.

Enter: the winter crop top.

Kristen Stewart for Chanel Métiers d’Art

Kristen Stewart for Chanel Métiers d’Art

The latest behind the scenes video of Kristen Stewart for Chanel Métiers d’Art certainly got my attention. Extremely different from anything we’ve ever seen from the French fashion house, the Métiers d’Art collection embodies the all-American girl in her all-American glory (cue: k-stew).

Having graduated from her Balenciaga Flora Botanica Campaign, Kristen Stewart was announced as Lagerfeld’s new muse in December last year, and is now the face of the prestigious brand. I don’t know about you, but I like it. If anyone can make Kristen Stewart a little more likeable, then it’s Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel.
